My work focuses on bringing out the natural beauty of the wood that I work with. A lot of my inspiration comes from Japan. My wife and I lived in Japan for a short time and we spent a lot of that time in Kyoto, visiting temples, shrines, and old farm houses. The simplicity and beauty of the furniture and structures in Japan is something that has stayed with me. I avoid using nails, screws, and glue whenever possible. I like to hand chisel to make my joints as tight as possible, which adds to the integrity and strength of the finished piece.
